Health officials are advising the public not to consume, sell, or serve specific Alasko brand frozen, whole raspberries across seven provinces. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) launched a foodborne illness outbreak investigation that triggered the recall after illnesses linked to the consumption of these items were reported.

The advisory applies to products bearing the lot number LOT# SY25314, purchase order code PO#138602, and a best before date of Nov. 10, 2027. Distributed broadly, these frozen berries reached households as well as hotels, institutions, and restaurants.

Norovirus Symptoms and Health Guidance

The recall stems from potential norovirus contamination. The highly contagious virus causes vomiting and diarrhea, with symptoms typically appearing as early as 12 hours following exposure. Additional symptoms often include stomach pain, nausea, cramps, headache, muscle aches, fatigue, chills, and a low-grade fever.

While no prescription treatments exist for norovirus, most individuals recover within two to three days without enduring lasting health impacts. However, severe vomiting or diarrhea can lead to dehydration. The Public Health Agency of Canada advises affected individuals to drink plenty of fluids, noting that severe cases may require hospitalization for intravenous fluid administration. Anyone who suspects they became ill from these products should reach out to their health-care provider.

Ongoing Investigation and Disposal Instructions

Specific details regarding the location of the outbreak or the total count of sick individuals have not been disclosed. The CFIA is verifying that the marketplace removes affected items and noted that its ongoing investigation could trigger additional product recalls. Consumers and businesses holding the recalled raspberries should either throw them away or return them to the place of purchase.

Advocates Push for Full Firearm Disclosure

Seven months after the fatal mass shooting in Tumbler Ridge, gun-control advocacy groups are urging police leadership to share specific details regarding the weapons involved. PolySeSouvient, an organization created after the 1989 massacre at École Polytechnique in Montreal, sent a co-signed letter on Sept. 14 to RCMP Commissioner Michael Duheme requesting maximum transparency around the Feb. 10 incident.

The coalition also asks if any weapons were previously reported stolen, seized by authorities, or modified, as well as the reasons and legal grounds behind any prior police seizures from suspect Jesse Van Rootselaar’s home.

According to B.C. RCMP Staff Sgt. Kris Clark, predicting exact timelines during active criminal investigations is virtually impossible due to multiple factors, though police remain dedicated to sharing verified details when feasible. B.C. Premier David Eby noted that while he initially anticipated a shorter probe since the shooter is dead, police must be permitted to complete a thorough investigation without political interference before releasing operational information.

Court documents unsealed following a media application revealed that Van Rootselaar suffered from mental health issues and possessed a fascination with firearms. Heidi Rathjen of PolySeSouvient stressed that releasing basic facts about the weapons allows Canadians to evaluate potential failures in firearms legislation without risking operational secrecy or compromising court proceedings.

RCMP Conclude Downtown Incident

An investigation into an August incident in downtown Kelowna has been closed after the injured party chose not to press charges. Kelowna RCMP officers have now concluded their file on the matter.

Late-Night Altercation on Water Street

The incident occurred around 2:05 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 9, in the 1600-block of Water Street. Patrolling officers observed a group engaged in a heated argument. Before police could step in, the dispute turned physical when one man struck another, causing him to fall to the ground and sustain serious injuries.

Suspect Arrested and Police Investigation Completed

Paramedics treated the injured man at the scene before transferring him to the hospital for further medical care. Police arrested the suspect on site, subsequently releasing them with conditions and a scheduled court date. Although RCMP gathered video surveillance, witness statements, and documentation to prepare a report for Crown Counsel, the victim ultimately decided against pursuing charges. What caused the initial argument and physical fight remains unknown.
