Record Heat Grips Coastal BC as Wildfires Begin to Ease
Wildfire activity easing across BC
After weeks of intense fire activity, conditions across the province are beginning to stabilize. The BC Wildfire Service reports that cooler nights and sporadic rainfall have allowed crews to make progress, with some blazes now listed as “being held” or trending toward “under control.” This marks a shift after a season that burned more than 800,000 hectares across the province and strained firefighting resources. The calmer weather has given teams an opportunity to strengthen containment lines and ease evacuation alerts in some regions.
Risks remain despite progress
Still, officials caution that the danger is not over. Persistent heat and dry conditions mean much of the province remains vulnerable, and lingering smoke continues to impact air quality in several coastal areas. Health authorities are urging residents—particularly seniors and those with respiratory conditions—to take precautions as the province navigates the final weeks of an already challenging wildfire season.
