Kamloops has been selected to host the BC Provincial Firefighter Training Summit in May 2026, bringing hundreds of fire service professionals from across the province to the city. The four-day event will feature hands-on training sessions, workshops, and demonstrations on the latest firefighting techniques and equipment. Organizers say the summit will also provide opportunities for rural and volunteer departments to access specialized training that is often unavailable in smaller communities.
The summit will be held at the Tournament Capital Centre and several training sites around the city, including live-fire simulation facilities. Sessions will cover wildfire response, urban search and rescue, hazardous materials handling, and mental health support for first responders. Vendors from across North America will showcase the newest tools and technologies, from drone-assisted firefighting to advanced breathing apparatus.
City officials estimate the event will bring more than $1 million in direct economic benefits to Kamloops through hotel stays, dining, and tourism spending. “It’s an honour to welcome BC’s fire service community to our city,” said Kamloops Fire Chief Ken Uzeloc. “The knowledge and skills shared here will make a difference in communities across the province.” Registration is expected to open in early 2026.
