Kamloops Eyes Transit Expansion Amid Ongoing Challenges
Kamloops City Council is currently reviewing a proposal to significantly expand transit services, with a plan to add nearly 60,000 hours of transit service by 2029. If approved, about 31,000 of those hours would come into effect in January 2027, pending provincial funding approval.
The expansion is seen as a crucial step toward improving public transit access and sustainability, especially amid regional growth and growing environmental concerns. It reflects local officials’ priority to ease congestion and enhance mobility options for residents across the city.
At the same time, the community continues to grapple with persistent air quality issues, as Kamloops experiences high pollution levels that are expected to peak before gradually easing. Ensuring clean air remains a parallel concern alongside efforts to expand transit infrastructure.
